The youth in Montgomery helped achieve the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The youth in Birmingham led the Birmingham movement. The youth in Selma sustained their movement. The youth in South Africa assisted liberation. Unfolding in real-time the youth all over the United States, led by survivors of the Parkland shooting, are calling for action. Are the young voices being heard? Does their voice and vote count? Will change ultimately occur?

On February 14, 2018 a mass shooting occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. Our nation quickly became weary of how socially accepted mass shootings have become and how there is nothing that can be done to prevent such tragedies from occurring in our own backyards.

The students from Stoneman Douglas quickly became determined to make their voices heard. They were willing to demand action and legislative change that many in the past were unwilling to do.

When the time came, the young people from Stoneman Douglas demanded to be heard and have walked their talk all over the United States including taking their message to Tallahassee and Washington D.C.

But some believe, these children are asking for all or nothing, unwilling to comprise at the cost of finding middle ground.  Will their movement fizzle or, like their predecessors, change legislation and the view Americans have on guns.
